It has been a while since my last post, but it’s good to be back. I’m picking up right where I left off with a new scene this week. Strap yourselves in ’cause for this week’s scene I’m going no further than the bout between Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago in Rocky IV. Alright, before I get into the scene I have to break the ice and admit I had never seen Rocky IV, which I guess makes me just about the worst American west of the 217 (shouts to the Mainers). I’ve seen the other Rocky films though so no need to worry. Short review: loved them, probably the best thing to come out of Philly since the Constitution. This movie screams America. Honestly, it just won’t stop. It is the Bill Cosby of American movies; it’s really famous so you give it a chance, but after it’s finished you wake up dazed and confused realizing the mistake you made. Too far…? Too far. The scene is great though, absolute classic Stallone here. The movie, similar to every other Rocky film, is basically one big training montage up until the fight. And the fight is just like every other Rocky fight: Rocky gets the shit kicked out of him for the first couple of rounds and wins in the end (just watch this). The fact that he withstood these punches especially wowed me because early in the film, Rocky’s best friend and former nemesis, Apollo Creed, couldn’t even survive one round with the Russian. I mean literally couldn’t survive. Apparently Drago punches so hard he killed Apollo in the ring. I can only attribute Rocky’s ability to withstand such a brutal attack to his mental retardation. Rocky is honestly one step below Forrest Gump, who is not the sharpest tool in the shed by any means. Yet, somehow Rocky looks like goddamn Einstein compared to Ivan Drago, who is played by Dolph Lundgren.
Notable Ivan Drago Quotes:
“I win for me! FOR ME!”
“He’s not human. He’s like a piece of iron.”
“To the end. “
“You will lose.”
“If he dies, he dies.”
“I must break you.”
“I defeat all man. Soon I defeat real champion.”
“I cannot be defeated. I beat all man. Someday, I will beat a real champion.“
I kid you not those are all of his lines in the entire movie. Regardless this isn’t supposed to be an Oscar winner or a test of wits. This is the star and stripes vs. the big, bad Russians and at least the scene is worth watching. USA! USA! USA!

Side note here: I love everything about Apollo Creed. I can’t get enough of the man. He’s like Floyd Mayweather 2.0. I practically jizzed my pants when I heard they were making a spinoff called Creed about his son, Adonis.
I’ve got the Goosies, ladies and gentleman (shouts to Ders).
